Downsizing Empty nesters

After living in their family home for over 40 years, this couple embarked on a journey to design their dream country property, inspired by the elegant charm of Hamptons style blended with the rustic warmth of the Australian countryside. Their vision was clear—Hamptons blues and whites paired with country-inspired warmth—but bringing this combination to life in a shed house  was a challenge they found difficult to visualise.

MJK Consulting helped turn this vision into reality through mood boards and realistic renderings, which captured the essence of Hamptons elegance meeting country comfort. By creating visual guides, we gave them the confidence to make informed decisions, ensuring every selection contributed to a cohesive and inviting space.

The design journey began with a closed-in large porch, which was styled with a very rustic aesthetic to maintain the warm, country feel. Using natural textures and earthy tones, we created a welcoming space that stayed true to the countryside vibe.

As you move through the home, the design transitions into the classic Hamptons palette of bright whites and soft blues, enhanced with timber furniture and textured accents such as cushions and throws. This combination brought in a sense of warmth and homeliness, balancing the elegance of Hamptons style with the comfort of country living.

To maintain cohesion between the rustic porch and the rest of the home, we subtly echoed the earthy colour palettethroughout the interiors, ensuring a harmonious flow between spaces while preserving their distinct identities.

The kitchen is truly the heart of the home, designed with ample storage space and a built-in pantry for preserves, perfectly tailored to the homeowner’s love for cooking. Functionality met style with carefully chosen cabinetry finishes and fixtures that stayed true to the Hamptons theme.

The bathroom, although compact, maintained a warm and welcoming feel using a palette of whites and greens, accented with statement tiles featuring a stunning eucalyptus design, bringing the beauty of the surrounding landscape indoors.

With a dedicated crafting room, a home office, and bedrooms overlooking the picturesque property, this house is no longer just a shed—it is a beautiful Hamptons-inspired home, finished to the highest standard. The result is a space that exudes elegance, comfort, and timeless charm, a true reflection of the couple’s vision and lifestyle.
